Me, I cued up "ABC" on the iPod during this morning's commute; that joyful Jackson 5 track having been preceded randomly by the Rolling Stones' "One Hit (to the Body)" and Asia's 2007 live acoustic take on "Don't Cry." (Feel free to cull apropos lyrics from both songs.)

Let us also not forget to note the passing of Sky Saxon, leader of the Seeds, whose seminal "Pushin' Too Hard" was a key brick in the underground garage punk movement of the '60s.

Yesterday was indeed an odd one for many reasons, but one comfort, at least: the music lives forever. --Mike Mettler, S&V EIC

Too bad Michael Jackson never approved the release of any of those alleged surround mixes. Granted, "Thriller" and "Bad" aren't exactly my favorite albums, and in general some of his stuff I downright dismiss these days as my musical tastes have changed; but there are definitely some gems to be had---"Billie Jean" and "Leave Me Alone" among them. That said, I think my favorite solo Michael Jackson tune would probably be "Man In The Mirror". Ah, yes, too bad he couldn't have just stayed that man from the mid-1980s: Eccentric and interesting, but not yet too strange. (Sigh.)

Off-topic: Speaking of the surround version of WYWH, too bad we've never gotten past the rumor and preliminary artwork stage of its release; it would be nice to have the old quad release officially made for sale again.
